I have a few questions for any current or ex-army pilots who are familiar with the selection board and other army related questions that I'm still not sure of.

First of all I would like to know my chances of acceptance from guys who have been there. I'm currently an aeronautical science major in my second year and have my ppl. I passed the flight physical which I took at Ft. Polk and I scored a 150 on the AFAST exam. I still have to take the D.A. photo, which I'm still not too sure what this is for. Besides that my package is pretty complete.

19years old
College experience
ppl
85 asvab
150 afast
passed the physical.
In great shape

So with this kind of package the chances of acceptance look good?

The other question I have is about the fixed wing side of Army aviation. I've heard that once becoming a CW3 you can apply for business jet training and stuff of that nature. How accurate is this and what other requirements must be acquired before applying for fixed? How long usually does it take an army aviator to reach CW3?

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

I'd guess that you've got a good chance. I've seen people with less qualifications get in and the personnel shortage hasn't changed since I applied about 3 years ago.

There's others around here that have been there and can give you more details, but here's a few comments:

A- It's not "business jet training". The Fixed Wing Multi Engine Qualification Course (FWMEQC) gets you in the King Air, called a C-12 in the military. It's twin-engine turboprop, not jet. The Army trains you in that because there's a pretty good chance that you'll end up flying the RC-12, used to gather electronic intelligence. I know the Army has a couple of aircraft that could fall in the "biz jet" category, but there's just not that many positions for those aircraft.

B- You do not HAVE to be a CW3. These are the FWMEQC minimum requirements from PERSCOM:

-Officer must be in a PCS status during fiscal year 2003. PCS Status is defined as having a minimum of 20 months on station at your current location as of 1 October 2002 or will DEROS from OCONUS during the FY03 (October 2002 - September 2003).

-Minimum 500 hours of military flight time.

-Minimum 50 hours military Pilot-in-Command time.

-Career Status - Either Voluntary Indefinite (CW2) or Regular Army (CW3/4/5)

Here's the link to the Fixed Wing career manager for Warrant Officers at PERSCOM... you can probably find links to all the info you wnt off of there...

My personal opinion is that if fixed wing is your primary desire, don't come to the Army. You will not be happy.

Cheers,

busted

d.morris,

You've pretty much been blackballed in the military aviation community. Maybe you should try your luck with Uncle Bob's rubber dog-sh1t air-taxi.

And before you mouth-off, just think. Yea, you might get selected, (MIGHT) but then what. Most of the people on this board know your future flight instructors, or they are your future flight instructors. Think about it! You'd better start some serious @ss-kissing!

Good Luck morris!
