What is the commitment to be an officer and a helicopter pilot in the Army? Once your commitment is up, is possible to make an easy transition to the National Guard?

6 Years after wings.

You will have to go to basic then OCS which will take 6 months. then go to Aviation Officer Basic Course which is another 4 months or so. After AOBC you will start flight school. Both AOBC and IERW (Army UPT) are at Mother Rucker Alabama. Flight school will take around a year. So bascially after basic, OCS, and flight school you will have been in the Army about 2 years, then theres 6 yr commitment after flight school. So by the time you seperate you will have about 8 yrs of service.

bjj, did you opt to go ocs vs wocs? i got the impression from a recent post on aptap that you are going commissioned...

Good Info

The Guard is always looking for qualified people, I don't know one person who couldn't get a job, however they didn't necessarily get the location but they did get a job. You might want to check out APTAP.ORG as well. There is a section on becoming an Army Aviator.
