I've been selected for IERW with a reserve unit and now need to get a flight physical done. Does anyone know if that can be done at any major installation or does Ft. Rucker just handle it. I live in the Florida panhandle and NAS Pensacola is just a short drive away.

Does the sponsering unit have a FS on site for drills? If not, I can attest to the fact that you can have the routines performed by any FS but I can't speak with certainty about an initial.

Your best bet would be to go to Rucker. The Navy has different requirements than the Army and you might get more than you need (read exposure to problems reserved for high altitude ops or ejection seat) that could disqualify for the Navy but not necessarily the Army. Or they may omit something that the Army wants but the Navy doesn't check. For your first one, the best bet is to get it done by an Army flight surgeon. If your unit has somebody they all go to, that should work too. anyway, you get a chance to cruise the area you're going to spend the next year at. Have lunch at Larry's Real Pit Barbeque in Daleville and stop by Wings Aviator Shop to browse.

Best of luck!

Reserve Flight Physical

When I went to WOFT, I went as a reservist. I had to wait until a reserve component medical unit drilled with a reservist flight surgeon. The active army unit wouldn't do it because I didn't have an active duty ID, and they "weren't budgeted" to take care of reservists. It had to be done in 2 parts. The first part draws blood, performs EKG, and other tests. At their next drill I finally got to see the doctor, he wouldn't recommend for flight duty until he had all of the test results. Then it went to Mother Rucker. They kicked it back because the reservist eye doctor entered 2 dashes for refraction, but the regulation stipulates that numerals must be entered (zeros) for no glasses. It got kicked back, and then I went back to the reserve eye doctor (with a copy of what the army wanted) and got him to enter the zeros. It then went back to Mother Rucker, and came back stamped "QUALIFIED, NO RESTRICTIONS". It took about 6 months to do the physical, but it was worth the wait.

They'll probably give you one at Rucker unless they specifically told you to show up with one completed. We have Army Guard pilots from around here come to CBM to get their flight physicals.
Heck! My first AFROTC flight physical was done by the Navy (at Miramar NAS of all places). I wouldn't think a different service would matter unless they can't accomodate you.
