Was looking into some C421 jobs, and found one that I found interesting. However, they want a 5,000 hour pilot. The job pays 40k with 150-200 hours/yr, part 91. Now why would a 5k hour ATP pilot take a 421 job only making 40k when he/she could go out and make two or more times that much? Are they asking too much (as far as flight experience) or just searching for someone with lots of experience to take an entry level corporate job? I applied anyways.

Just my 2¢ worth...

1. The owner of the company feels more comfortable with a seasoned professional.

2. The insurance company said "we'll reduce your rates by x% if you hire someone with 5000 TT."

Depending on the company, they might be looking for someone who flys corp jets that is looking to make an extra 40K. 150-200hrs per year isn't much, but it could be easily accomodated into alot of corp pilot's schedules. Fat City for them!

there are a lot of regional guys who have 5K+ hours and make less than 40K.

many seem sick of their jobs and are facing layoffs (maybe?)

or maybe a retired guy?

I bet they fill this job no problem.
