Just curious if anyone knows which regionals are still planning on hiring this spring and summer. I know it could change tomorrow, but anyone hear about specific hiring needs?

Thanks

I think it's starting already. By the end of 2008 1000/100 will again be again be the standard for most regionals. All of you asking about jet course vs. CFI here's some free advice: get your CFI. A jet course won't buy you a cup of coffee when the mins go up.

where are the quickest upgrades?

Wherever they are now, they will NOT be in the same place by the time you interview there, get through training, get on line, and wait for the upgrade.

Chasing an upgrade is the worst way to pick and airline. There are too many variables. Go to an airline where you can stand to work, even if you don't upgrade in .5 milliseconds. You'll regret it if you go somewhere just for the upgrade, and then you get stuck as an FO for 7 years due to some unforseen variable coming into play.

My .02 anyway. Enjoy!

thanks guys. I love the line at the grocery store example!

If your profile is anywhere near accurate why are you asking?

I'm becoming increasingly convinced we're about to see bad times again. Age 65, oil prices, recession, consolidation.. Maybe not as bad as right after 9/11, but definitely not good. I hate to be the one beating the drums of of doom and gloom but all the signs are pointing that way. Maybe I'm wrong and this will be a great year for aviation, but I doubt it. I would spend more time worrying about going somewhere with relative job security and the least potential for getting furloughed than I would worrying about upgrade times. The way this industry can turn on a dime six months from now you might just be glad to have a job. Sorry to be so negative but lately I've been feeling very pessimistic about the industry.

no worries, not for me, I am upgrading real soon in the 74. just fishing for a friend that has been out of the water for awhile. he wants back in and I was curious.

good luck to you all!

So it looks like Comair is planning to be 240-360 pilots smaller at the end of 2008? Gotta love that place.

Here's some advise for anyone considering a career in aviation...don't. Stay away from the aviation industry as there are enough storm clouds on the horizon to make any intelligent person think twice about getting into a Cessna 172. Here are just a few of the storm clouds I refer to:

Age 65...killing career progression for two-five years.

Open Skies...potentially having as big an influence on pilot salaries and quality of life as deregulation did.

Worldwide demand for oil outpacing worldwide oil production capability. How many trips through bankruptcy by your company are you willing to endure before you say "enough is enough" and throw away the seniority you've spent time building to do what you should have done in the first place and invest your time in a more worthwhile profession.

An outdated Railway Labor Act that prevents pilots from collectively witholding services...despite Hollywood writers being allowed to strike at will.
