Anyone see this one? April Fool's joke?

Air Cruisers Inc., Announces Safety Equipment Leasing Contract with
Southwest Airlines.

April 1, 2004

Belmar, NJ----Air Cruisers, a New Jersey based supplier of inflatable
safety
products for the commercial airline industry, and Southwest Airlines
have agreed to terms on a unique arrangement for the leasing of over-
water safety equipment for the airline's Boeing 737 airliners. Under
the terms of the arrangement, Air Cruisers will equip certain SWA
hubs with modular packages of inflatable safety equipment, which the
airline will lease on a per flight basis. The agreement initially
provides enough equipment for the outfitting of 20 aircraft with
provisions to add additional aircraft as necessary.

"This agreement is the first of its kind in the industry." Said
Rowan Anprain, spokesman for the company. "We've been working with
Southwest for a couple of years. Their concerns were always cost,
weight, and volume displacement. New technologies that we have
developed recently effectively meet those concerns."

Southwest Airlines will be the first airline to use Air Cruiser's
next generation "Litesaver" equipment series that has been developed
in part for Boeing Aircraft's 7E7 Dreamliner program.

The new life rafts are designed using newer generation polyurethane
coated fabric (PCF) which has superior strength and service life
combined with lower weight than traditional neoprene rubber products.
Another new feature is the company's new "Vacu-fold" 3-D packaging
technology. This new technology allows the modular equipment
packages to be compressed and formed to virtually unlimited storage
shapes. "We've created equipment package modules that are
dimensionally perfect for Southwest's overhead storage bins. We can
equip their aircraft using approximately half of the normal storage
volume and at about 60% of the laden weight of traditional products.
These modules are easily removable and replaceable allowing the
airline to configure each aircraft as needed in less than five
minutes.

Air Cruisers has been developing the "Litesaver" equipment series
since the inception of the Dreamliner program and just recently
granted FAA approval of the equipment series through TSO C70 and C70a
design criteria.
Air Cruisers is the only company that offers a complete line of
inflatable safety products: evacuation slides and slide rafts, life
vests, life rafts and helicopter floats. All of their products are
supported by worldwide sales and service network with the additional
support of factory based engineering staff and factory trained
technicians.

Since 1987, AirCruisers has been a subsidiary of the Zodiac Groupe of
Paris, France, best known as the leading manufacturer of inflatable
boats. The merger provided synergy for both companies that
strengthened both companies' positions in their respective markets.
Air Cruisers achieved a milestone accomplishment by receiving
Boeing's 1997 Presidents Award for excellence. Of all Boeing's
suppliers, only six were awarded this honor.

Probably an Aprils Foold joke. Sure would be cool to see WN flying to places like HNL and ANC (don't believe overwater equip. is required to go to ANC), I think all the flights up here stay wit in 50 miles of shore?

I don't believe that an 11 hour turn to the Hawaiian Islands is part of the Southwest model. But WTF do I know I just fly the plane.

I hear that my PC on the 9th will include swimming lessons...

But, SWAPA is fighting it, so that we will able to use floaties and not have to tread water for more than 15 mins.

I'm betting it's not a joke...

Maybe they want to save fuel by flying the AR routes over the atlantic when headed to/from Florida.

I don't know their route structure... but maybe they are planning some PHL, BDL, ISP trips non-stop down to Florida. Definitely would save gas to throw on a few rafts and go over the AR routes.
