I have been in touch with two different agents so far they both tell me i won't be able to insure a TwinComanche or an Apache for instruction and rental. They say both W Brown and Phoenix adapted these policies of '25 years or younger' policy that is preventing some flight schools having an IR coverage. On the other hand, if you have been operating one for many years, you are still allowed to carry coverage.

Any idea if these airplanes are truely imppossible or the insurance agents are trying to get me to by a DA42? :)

Finding parts is a big factor. I know some of the biggies won't even look at an Apache for PB. Five years ago, the PB coverage for an Apache was $2k more than a PA30 and the PA30's hull was 2x the Apache's.

A good PA30 is going to be about $90-100k. Spend a little more and get a PA44. Your mx cost and down-time will be lower.

Also, I hear Piper orignially made the PA30 for training...and then all the accident started happening and it got a bad rep. It can be a hand full doing PTS tasks. I love the plane. It's good for the experienced pilot to go from Point A to B fast and economically.

For rental and instruction, go with a basic PA44.

PA30 is a good aircraft, i even found PA39s but insurance companies said no. They have PA23, PA30 and even 39 on their prohibited lists. The good PA30 i found was in great condition, consumed 4 gallons less and it was 80K. Compared that to a PA44 which junk ones go for 120K, you see my point..

Now I have an owner of a PA23-160 (Geronimo) with 0 time and he is an A&P. Despite all this no one wants to touch the aircraft. If I was an insurance company i'd rather insure this aircraft than a PA44 that is in sorry condition that sells for 120K.

Try to get "Lloyds Aviation" Policy they will cover just about anything for a price!

I am bringing a Twin Comanche onto my flight line for rental and instruction and it was a piece of cake to get insurance.
