Hi People,

I was wondering if any of you had some useful advice, comments or suggestions for my situation, here goes...

I'm currently furloughed from a 121 carrier, I've interviewed with another 121 carrier and was told verbally by the pilot recruiter and the HR Employment person that I am welcome to come aboard, BUT (isn't there always a but?) at this time they can't officially give me a class date because they say the work documentation I have is not permanent and therefore not valid.
So, for those of you who are familiar with Immigration law or work rules or ANYTHING to help me out I'd appreciate it.
I'm a Canadian citizen and have the INS form I-551 (aka "Green Card") authorized, I just don't have the actual card yet b/c it takes time (months, even years) to process and mail out etc etc. In lieu of the actual physical card I have a stamp in my passport that says I have been approved for INS form I-551 ("Green Card") and that employment IS authorized. What my potential new employer is concerned about is that the stamp has an expiration date on it (1 year) but I've told them that I've already renewed it once and it is no problem to keep renewing while I wait for the actual Green Card to come in the mail.
I'll be going to the local INS office later this week and will also talk to my ALPA rep. to see if they can help, but if anyone out there can help I'd also appreciate it very much. Sorry for the lenghty post, but thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your replies.

If you go to page 8 of this forum I posted some info on this subject awhile back. I'm too going through the same issues and its kind of a mess right now. I think that the US Justice Dept is desperatly trying to sort this all out but are perhaps overwhelmed at this time. Good Luck:cool:

Thanks for the reply, I remember reading that thread a while back. It's pretty frustrating because I AM current on aircraft over 12,500 so I qualify for the expedited DOJ security check AND I'm legal to work. It's not that INS is making it harder for me than usual, which is still pretty hard ;) but the company I could be working for right now is unaware of employment/immigration policies. The government says I'm ok to work but the company says I'm not. Oh well I hope to have it sorted out soon and I'll keep you posted.
