I use it a lot. I find it hard to believe that as yet, the service is without cost; it's free. The links to check published NOTAM's, the weather capability, the quick flight planning capability using the quick popup high altitude and low altitude routes, coupled with the dp's and stars, really handy for quickly hammering out a route, not to mention the routes from former useages on the site. For brevity and a lot of information in one spot, the site can reduce an evening of flight planning to a very short time, and then provide concise printouts . It's worth it's weight in roasted peanuts, plus change.

thanks

been using DUATS and actually looking to "move up" to something with a better interface, free is always welcome also

What he said!
It's an awsome site, I use it before every flight, can't beilve it's free.

I love that site.

Anybody use the "advanced fuel burn calculation"? I spent alot of time entering the info directly from the AFM. The AFM performance #'s for the Astra are very reliable but when I run it through fltplan.com the calculations are pretty far off. Anyone else experience this?

Nice site. Wish the flight tracking was free....

First, this isn't a comparison - haven't used fltplan.com (yet). But Aeroplanner.com (basic) is free with EAA membership.

Aeroplanner was completely free for a while, then they came on with the charges. If Flyplan.com is good, they start charging eventually, just like I would.

Fantastic!

www.fltplan.com is really great. The only problem is that as compared to DUATS it does not constitute a "legal" briefing. So, for instance, if you were to get "in trouble" and the FAA checked if you received proper briefing, their opinion would be that you did not get a briefing. Use it and back it up with an FSS briefer and you'll be not only informed but legal. Also, by getting the briefing prior to calling the FSS briefer or visiting the FSS, you will be able to get more out of the real briefing.

Based on my experience with the FAA, if you're in their sights, they'll get you with something anyway - official briefing or not. But point well taken...

Unfortunately, until a charge starts being made for that site, they probably aren't going to jump through the hoops to gain certification as a credible source of weather and information. Right now for those using it, it's probably best to do the flight planning and filing, and then place a call to flight service to make an official record of having recieved weather and data.

I think I've had one flight plan dropped that's been filed with fltplan.com, whereas I've had quite a few disappear out of the system that have been phone filed, or filed other ways.

I've tried a few other services, including DUATS, and I think the fltplan.com is the most user friendly I've done. I've found that the fuel burns and times are very accurate, even measured against company dispatches...which to me, says a lot.

For private flying, it's hard to beat, if you have the time to get on a computer and look it up. Like others have said, I'm sure a charge will come about for the service before long. Most everyone I know is using it.

Lest TonyC get so exited he suffer a stroke over this, the above post by "Redd" was mine. Redd had not logged off the computer, and I made several posts without realizing that I was posting under someone else's handle. The above post says "redd," it isn't. It's me. For whatever that's worth. I don't post under dual names, though Tony seems thrilled to death to think he's found a "gotcha." Sorry Tony. Different people. That Redd does occasionally attack you is all your own doing...I have nothing to do with it. Better luck next time.

Redd is logged off this computer. My mistake.
