Legitimate question:

Has anyone heard how the RJ rates will compare at JB with "mainline"? There's not much gouge on the street about the RJ (except JB is buying a bunch). Have any of the recent pilot candidates heard about what the projected plan is for new hires (upgrade, etc) when the Embraer comes on board?

Fly safe!

I think it's still way too early for that kind of info to be out there yet. They're talking late '05. Two years away.

Here's my uneducated guess:
If mainline JB is 55/75 ish (not exact numbers)
Then RJ would be 35/65 ish.

I am not sure if by saying "mainline" you mean the airbus jetBlue pilots, or other mainline carriers.

Anywhoo, we are told that the "rj's" will not be an express portion to say. It is basically the same as USAirways flying an airbus 321 and a DC-9. It is the same bunch of pilots, same seniority list, just different pay because of the different size of aircraft. Lanny, our last chief pilot, who is now heading up the Embraer program said that the 190 captains would be somewhere between the bus captain and F/O. I have no doubts at all that the company will handle the situation in a fashion that will be acceptable to all.

BTW, the 190 will have 100 all leather seats with the same direct tv system that is installed in the bus...The seats may even be wider in the 190 I am told.

For what it is worth....

CCDiscoB first statement is correct, it's too far away to be certain. But his numbers are a bit off although I didn't do the math as far as ratio's go, so maybe he is close???

Here's what we do know: As per Senior Management; a EMB190 Captain will make more than a A320 FO and a EMB190 FO will make less than a A320 FO. (Please note I said EMB190, not RJ!!)

The current scale as of today for the A320 is:

1st year Capt - $110.49/hr and $165.74/hr for over 70 hours.
1st year FO - $50.96/hr and $76.44/hr for over 70 hours.

There is also a few other overrides for Junior Assignment pay, Ground Delays, Duty rig, etc. The Captain pays graduates about 2-3% a year and the FO about 8-9%. The way the upgrade runs now you more than likely would never be a "1st year" Captain but more than likely 2nd year Captain by the time you upgrade.

All that being said, sounds like the EMB190 pay will be pretty good, all things considered. Uh oh, sounds like I just planted a thread seed!!

See ya

As pilots, we're usually pretty harsh on the media for being ignorant about aviation. The "media" have been the source for this RJ label on the EMB-190. It's obviously not an RJ. So, just to be accurate, let's not call it an RJ.

All pay for any additional aircraft is based on ASMS. EMB pay is probably in 40-44 first year FO range (from a credible source). Based on that, that puts EMB first year Capt. pay in the $95-$100/hr. for Captain.

Two year fence for training on a particular type.

Hope this helps.

I'LL TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw a 170 in Billings yesterday. We went over and talked to one of the crew. He said they were doing CAT II certification. We checked out the cabin and cockpit. Being a CRJ driver, I'm not a big Embraer fan. However, I was drooling all the way back to Phoenix. The cockpit is unbelievably roomy- has to be almost as wide as a 320. The displays are all LCD and there is even a laptop like "mouse" pad similiar to the 777 used to move a cursor around some of the displays. The guy we talked to said they climb above 10K at 300/.76 and econo cruise is usually around .80. Also has full VNAV.

As if that wasn't enough, the cabin was the most comfortable I have ever seen in coach. I was shocked when he told me the seating was two and two since the airplane had to be at least three feet wider than the CRJ (there weren't many seats in at the time due to all the test equipment and water ballast tanks. I could stand in the isle and almost fully extend my arm before touching the ceiling (I'm 5'8").

Wish we had ordered these babies instead of CRJ700/900 at mesa. Of course that would piss off the AWA pilots even more since these things look like 1/2 scale Airbuses.
