The runway at Cedar Key is not as short as some of these guys make it sound. It's MORE than enough for a competent pilot in most GA airplanes....especially taildraggers. I've been there many times in RV's(3,4,6, and 8) and use a very small portion of the runway. In something like a C172, you will use a good portion of it(for takeoff) if heavy. If you're low time and/or don't have experience on runways well under 3,000' long, go with a pilot experienced with "short field" ops.

I flew there back in 2001 a couple times - once w/my instructor when we were doing some x/c and also a month or so later w/my then-girlfriend. As mentioned, when you announce your intentions over the CTAF, a lady will call and ask if you need a cab into town - both times I didn't use it and just stayed at the airstrip - second time we brought a picnic and hung out there.
Nice place.....

CDK, great place to visit. Former civil war port, lots of history and character. Go for lunch, it's cheaper and you'll have time to stroll around after. We like Seabreeze Restaurant in the middle of the dock. Great seafood and Florida food. Check out visitcedarkey.com for other great restaurants and practice short field landings before you go.
