.....a company called Worldwide Jet Charter? They want me to pay for my type rating, but pays it back over 24 months. Is this the standard in charter/corporate?

NO...it sounds like thier trying to get you into a 24 month training contract.

Tell them if they're gonna pay for it anyhow you'd rather them just do it upfront.

Yes, you should not take the job because a flight instructor with 10 hours of illegal logbook time in a Citation says so.

If you pay for the type upfront you are taking huge risks. There are probably better options available to you if you keep looking.

Good Luck.

A couple hundred actually, and are you saying that most charter places make you pay for your own type and if so could you please list these quality operators.

Yea that is it .... that is the ticket, lots of them do that, yea. Go to work for GJets and have some self respect ... of course an entire other sector of aviation will hate you ... Just kidding.

Do not do it. There are better gigs out there. I know it is tough, but things will get better.

PS I do not know of a "quality" operator that requries this.

Have them sign a 24-month contract guaranteeing your salary, with raises and bonuses, don't forget healthcare, dental and vision.

What's that say about SouthWest?

Let's not get away from the thread.

This board is for corporate whinners. If you to start whinning about the airlines go to Majors or Regionals ;)

Don't do it...they'll fire you on your 11th hour of the 24 months, so you'll foot the bill.

Anywhere that can't afford to pay for their pilot's training is not worth working at...now if you go out and screw them....that's a whole different ball game.

do they pro rate the training contract and if you sign it
you will be stuck with it if you do quit
good luck

Southwest does NOT require anyone to pay for anything. The requirements simply say that you must have a B737 type to apply/start class. Nowhere does it say "you have to buy your type." But I'm sure you already knew that.

Run screaming in the other direction - really, stop reading this and run away from these people. What does this requirement say about how you will be treated as an employee once you're on staff? RUN!

About to do it

I came a day away from signing up with them.

I had all my paperwork sent and airline and hotel reservations for indoc. At the eleventh hour I turned them down due to the 24 month contract, the domicile problem (Millville, NJ or Ontario, CA) and the two weeks on and one week off.

Their response told me that I made the correct decision, they were very upset and yelled at me over the phone. The only cost they incurred was receiving Fax's and some phone calls. The airline and hotel reservations were just that reservations. Didn't use them and canceled before any cost incurred.

Not very professional.
