Going there for a few days and was wondering what is there to do? Food, bars, etc. Hoping to find a place to fish. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lajitas and Beer

There is a famous goat that drinks beer for the crowds. If he is still alive, maybe you could buy him a few rounds for fun.

mayor/goat

Beer drinking goat.

That would be Clay Henry III. That would also be the Mayor of town.

The goat was not named after the mayor. The beer drinking goat is the Mayor.

It's a fun town.

You're a long way from anything as far as major infrastructure. However, if you want to do Big Bend, you're set. I think you can still go rafting down the Rio from there, since KISS 99.5 FM in San Antonion used to do an annual trip starting in Lajitas. Of course, Mexico is ok for a day.
Bottom line: get some tourist info for Big Bend. There's some good places to stay, the McDonald Observatory, etc... but you'll need wheels.

No overnight.

I haven't overnighted there, but I hear there is some great golf there. Nice resort community, not much else.

I have been several times and would bring golf clubs, hiking boots, and your beer drinking hat. If you have a car head to the Big Bend, Terlingua for drinks and dinner at La Kiva, also when you are leaving take the time to fly from Lajitas eastbound on the Rio Grande down the Santa Elena canyon, it is one of the most beautiful canyons in America (don't be too low though.)

hahahahaha LMFAO!!! I know where I'm going for my next vacation :D

Thanks for the replies, we'll have to see how this turns out. So far all I've been able to find is exactly what you say-golf, hiking, and beer. The beer part applies to me, but having never golfed this might be a long few days. I wish it was winter there, they say they offer great hunting. Now that's my cup of tea.

I'll let ya know.
