.Date: 01/2007Region: EUR(V)Country: PolandCity: WroclawICAO: EPWRAirport Name: StrachowiceAircraft: G VFeedback: Arrived from the northwest via direct to WRW NDB. Radar services were terminated in the descent around FL 100 and we executed the full ILS DME Y Rwy 29 Approach. One must me assertive in acquiring descent clearances in Poland. After landing, we back-taxied to park on the Military Apron 1. Two years prior we parked on the apron at Taxiways A2 and N next to the terminal, but this is now nearly full with daily and nightly airline traffic and parking. Military Apron 1 has dimensions of 60 x 160 meters with nonstandard markings and lighting. Pavement values by NOTAM were PCN 75 and R/A/W/T. Fuel was available promptly after arrival and we did not use potable water or lavatory services. No refrigeration was available at the airport. After a very short ride to the terminal, we quickly cleared Customs and Immigration. The rides to and from the airport were about 30 minutes but could be as long as 45 minutes in traffic. We stayed at the Sofitel, which appeared to be the best hotel in the central town. The Flight Attendant was able to secure catering refrigeration at the hotel. Everything went smoothly on departure. We were driven from the hotel directly to planeside. Ice delivery was a little inadequate at the early morning hour. The nonradar departure to the southeast went smoothly with no other traffic in the area. On a previous visit, de-icing was available using Type II Kilfrost ABC3. The operator allowed the pilot to ride up in the cab to observe de-icing of the tail from above. Flight planning and handling were arranged through Jeppesen.Reporter: M.T.Telephone: 408-291-2353E-mail:[email protected]
Cool destination. No problem getting in just like any other European destination. Stayed at the SAS Radison (check out the cutie selling amber in the lobby.)
Walk to the town center, it's only about a 10 minute walk, neat area with a lot of restaurants and such.
Read Black Order by James Rollings before you visit for some interesting lore...
