I am just asking, how the software knows that you have installed it on more than 1 pc? if you own the pcs yourself, like a home desktop and laptop, why can't you just put it on there without buying anotehr license, I just don't get it..

When you install a software application, read the license completely. You are going to "get it" when someone "gets it for you" in a very costly way. Software is typically purchased for use on ONE computer unless the license specifies otherwise. There are ways to monitor usage of a software installation without your knowing and they don't want you to know how they do it for obvious reasons.

This is typical of almost all the software you buy. Installing it on more than one computer is probably in violation of the license and the penalties are stiff. Be careful what you say on a public forum, it has bitten more than one!

Safelog encourages it. THey allow you to install it on as many machines as you like, as long as you own them. Their copy protection? your name/address/phone shows up on the screen when it starts up. I do know he offers a reward of sorts if you "turn in" someone distributing it widely.

yeah see that is very important to me to install on all of my pcs. I don't like the idea that the software has to be machien specific. I am constantly updating hardware, changing machines, etc. since I am in the computer industry, and I don't want software tied to a specific machine. And the thought of not being able to install the same piece of software that I own on my desktop, laptop and work machine, just annoys me.

Safelog has a nice format, is super user friendly and looks great on the screen... but the printing options are ridiculous. If this software could print with more flexability then it would be a great program...but there is no flexibility with moving cells around and absolutely no way to squeeze in any remarks. You can't even change the size of the font so as to squeeze in more for the remarks. One size font is all you get. I was absolutely amazed at how limited this software is when it comes to printing it out. The software is so user freindly and seems all well and good until you try to print it out....which is usually after you have spent countless hours inputing all your flight hours. Their help desk response is also a total joke...they say that there are not really any complaints but if you have a problem with the print out try exporting it into Excell so you can print it out the way you want. Yeah right...I tried that too and the export did not even include my remarks...What a joke! No wonder on their free demo they don't allow you to print. Don't be fooled...until this company deals with flexible print options this software is only going to waste your time. I'm writing this not to diss the company, but for two reasons: 1. to save any future pilots the frustration and $$$ and 2. hopefully to get Dauntless' attention that they need to deal with this limitation and fix it. If this software could print with more flexability then it would be a great program. Lets hope they step up.
