I'm a former Tweet FAIP. I left active duty last year and am currently working at a regional airline. When I was looking last year, there weren't really any Reserve UPT units hiring. Has this changed?

I'm most interested in Laughlin, although any UPT base would work.

Thanks!!

Fred

I wont speak for Laughlin, but Vance (and CBM I think) is overmanned as a result of converting TR positions to AGRs. I'd just give them a call and get the straight scoop.

It would help if you knew someone in the unit.

We ARE converting TR positions to AGR (three for one) but I'm not sure about the other units. Those TR slots will be lost through normal attrition...meaning no one will be asked to leave.

Most units are full-up and our active duty counterparts are current, qualified and asking about the future openings as well.

Call them

I just left Del Rio T-1s. I know they were looking for people, but may have filled them already. Just call the units. They are very straight forward. The minimum 6 days a month makes it difficult to have a full time civilian job and still get the Reserves their "numbers".

Lesson here is that as the post 9/11 furlough trama settles down, some of the guys who were troughing are finding good deals full time, in other civilian employment, or are retiring out of the system. One year ago I had five part time guys to supervise as the senior part-timer. As of this month, I'm down to 2. One PCS'd to a non-flying staff job that was near his home town. Another found a full time spot in an associate unit just spinning up. Yet another got an AGR slot here in our unit. I'm hoping one of the two remaining TGs gets an AGR slot in the next 12 months or so...

If you want a part time slot somewhere--keep networking and keep looking--the slots are going to start popping up here and there. I always see 130 units looking for guys, and I think 135 units are the same. Can't speak for the fighter units but it is likely if you have some old squadron mates out there in the system they might be able to find a spot for you somewhere. I think like many units we have converted some TG slots to full time spots at the previously mentioned 3 for 1 ratio. However, there are limits to how many slots can be taken, and I think there will be some part time slots for the "persistant" out there that do effective networking.

If flying F-15s in the Reserves in an active duty wing in your gig, there will be some slots created in the next couple years at Eglin and Langley. The F-16 community has done the same thing at Shaw AFB, and although I'm not familar with the details it appears the F-15 community is following suit. There are pros and cons to being a part timer in an active duty unit, but after 18 months of doing it in the FTU environment I will say its a great deal dispite some interesting challenges. I know nothing about the hiring plans, the rate they will "spin up", and I have ZERO influence as to who they will hire. However, if you are an F-15 driver out in the CAF, you likely already know the Eglin and Langley POCs. If not, but you are interested, send me a PM and I'll tell you who to contact.

And no...these jobs won't be for UPT hopefuls, cross trainer types, or guys who haven't flown the jet in a while. You'll need to try the traditional ANG/Reserve units for those slots...

Good luck to everyone.

The major issue in the 340 FTG is PIT money. Unlike a couple of years ago, PIT slots are few and far between.

If it's been over five years since you flew the mighty Tweet, they will have to find a B course for you to attend. Actually, DLF is getting T-6s as we speak so that's another issue you'll need to ask about.

They're (the gaining unit) going to ask for three years (that's our unit policy) for sending you through PIT. Make sure you're committed.
