Unfortunately I believe there's very little to report to our furloughed guys, whom I believe number around 116. However I would suspect that when recalls start, a good chunk of those 116 will have moved on, possibly as many as 50%, so keep that in mind. I know of several furloughed Blue Ridgers who've gone to places like Comair, Air Wisconsin, or even corporate opportunities. BTW I'm basing that ~50% # based on how many passed on recall at Eagle. I believe at COEX the # was somewhere between 30-40% - perhaps somebody has more accurate statistics as all my numbers are just educated guesses.
For the short term ACA appears to be overstaffed, however if you can hack the wait, this place definitely has promise for the future, what with the planning I've seen for Independence Air. It must be frustrating to not be flying, but keep the faith and hopefully things will work out for us here.
I do not plan on coming back. I am making Captain money in the corporate world. The Guard gives me more money on drills and AFTPs than I would make as a second year FO. I also have off more than 11 days per month. The best part is I didn't have to quit ACA to make this happen. If I do ever decide to go back to the airlines in 6-10 years I have a clean record with a Part 121 stamp of approval and training from ACA. I am still racking up multi-eng turbine, PIC time in the Guard. As much as I hated the furlough at the time it was the best thing to happen to me. I'll still be willing to fly Independence Air someday, but you can bet I don't travel UAL for business trips. FU-UAL. The irony of this situation is that I now make more cash than my sister-in-law who flys for UAL after her pay cut. ADIOS ACA!
They just took my vacation away because they are short FO's , and that is with all the captain's being displaced. They have no reserves and by far we are not over staffed!! I told them that I am not given up my vacation because they have staffing issues, they should have not forloughed then. I guess I have to fight this out with my union rep.
It's good to see that there are good people out there. Thank you for having the testicular fortitude to stand up for what is right. You deserve a vacation. There should be more people like you who demand vacation and don't pick up excessive open time. It sends a message to management so that they realize they are short pilots and that the current employees shouldn't have to cover for their mistakes.
And since someone will probably say it anyway, yes I'm angry and I need to get laid.
