I was searching some threads and have been reading some
conflicting info. on NJA jumpseat privelages. Anyone know, what the deal is?
Do NJA pilots get them and if so, with what airlines?

There are no reciprocal deals with anyone. There are a few carriers I've heard of such SWA that may let you ride on a case by case basis(Captains discretion). It's nothing concrete that you can plan on or anything.

I thought that commute air actually had an official deal with NJA....but maybe thats changed. I have done it before as I am sure many others have as well. Most cptns, out of the kindness of their heart, have let me go. Did get turned down by a Comair FO once tho....cptn was gonna let me go, but FO didnt think it was a good idea.

No, there never was an "official deal," as our airline doesn't have a reciprocal jumpseat list. We're permitted to take any pilot or flight attendant from a Part 121 or Part 135 carrier. (I believe NJA has a 135 certificate, which is why we're able to take you.)

In any case, I've taken Netjets guys before and am always happy to do so. Next time, though, I'm going to give the jumpseater my name so he can bug Derinda about getting me an interview sometime this year! Putting in a good word for us is all the reciprocation I need. :D

When we landed he apologized again (FO was out doing the postflight) and said it was a new Comair Academy guy just off IOE. Go figure

Different situation, but good results...
Years ago I was Jumpseating on a United DC10. It was a full flight and there was an intern that was going to jumpseat. No problem, the DC10 has 2 seats. Then a United pilot shows up for the jumpseat. The captain now had to make a decision. He asked the FE (an over 60 guy) who gets to go???the intern or the off-line pilot. The old guy asked me, "do you pay ALPA dues?". I answered, "yes". He asked the intern the same question. His answer, "no". The FE then looks at the captain and said, "I know who I would take". I got the seat.

Thanks to all the UAL and AA crews for the years of jumpseating.

CA1900.....I did ask for your JS many times out of PWM. But anyway, I always apppreicated and was grateful to you guys and just wanted to say thanks for the help you gave me getting down to BOS. All of you guys have been great to JS on.....and it's something that cant be taken for granted by any means.

I only hope to somehow return the favor.
