I would like to know a little more about Miami Air? 1st year pay, schedules, benefits, etc.

Anyone, anyone?

Thanks!

Matt

Here are some numbers for you to contemplate...Based on the current contract which has recently been extended for 2 more years in exchange for participation in MAI's profit sharing program.

First Year F/O : 38.44/hr
Fifth Year F/O : 52.86/hr
7th Year F/O : 54.46/hr (top of scale)

First Year Capt: 63.69/hr
Fifth Year Capt: 86.90/hr
13th Year Capt: 117.22/hr (top of scale)

Salary based on 70 hour/mo. guarantee
extra $200/day for F/Os to work on day off
extra $300/day for Capts ot work on day off

The numbers alone are nothing to write home about, but there are other work rules that (almost) make up for it...

Longevity applies for capt upgrade after first year... ie: it may take 5 years or more to upgrade so let's say 5... First year capt gets $63.69/hr, second year pay jumps to 6th year capt. pay.

9 guaranteed days off per month
2 optional days off per month (extra pay applies if scheduled to work on your optional day)

Standard bidding system but due to the nature of charter flying, many trips can change before you fly them. Better to bid based on days off, not destinations or layovers.

All F/O's are typed in 737-800 during initial training which requires a 2 year contract.

Perdiem $1.50 per hour up to $30.00/day domestic, double for international.

Anyone else want more info can PM me...

charter

They are a fairly typical charter company that has had some success. It was started by pretty much all ex Eastern employees. The started with 727's and then migrated into 737's. Fly sports teams, justice department, scheduled charter to warm climates etc, Were pretty slow after September 11th but I think things are better now.

I have worked for Miami Air for the last 8 years. I can honestly say it is the best job I have ever had. I know a bunch of people from EAL who work there which made it cosy to begin with. There are many there who were not with EAL and I have found them all to be great people to work for and with also.
I can honestly say that if it is on CNN then there will be a Miami Air airplane somewhere in the vicinity. We do so much that the most Miami Air line pilot's has no idea where we go and what we do............until one night......... we are going ......where.......and how.........another Miami Air adventure. You must like to travel, and I mean by airlines, limo, truck, mule, boat and any other means of transport. Half your time spent on the road is just getting to an airplane so you can fly it. We have a 5 for 1 duty rig that is suppose to cover all the above.
But, if you love the military, and love seeing the world, the lack of pay sure is made up for by the adventure. Other crewmembers are great except for this FO named Bigflyer....he is a real pain..........
:D

I know three people that paid $18K to ride right seat for 250 hours. They were hired with less than 1000TT by the end of their contract.

Better start naming names because I there is not one person who flew with us with than amount of time, nor paid money for it. There is no PFT at Miami Air. There is a hire contract that is in place to keep people from leaving, people that want to take advantage. There seems to be a bunch of that type on this board. Other than that the minimum is 2500TT period. Maybe you have Miami Air International mixed up with a freight outfit called Miaimi Air Freight, they run Convairs.

wow,

then i can honestly say that i'm sorry you never made it......

I just got back from looking at our new 737-800 with 6 hours on it. But besides nice equipment it is the people that you are with that make the diffrence. Never made it....made it to what. You guys all live in fantasy land..........I am very happy where I am.

Upgrade

What is the realistic upgrade time at Miami Air? How many scheduled days off does a pilot average per month (9 days being the minimum)? How many flight hours do your pilots average per month? Are you required to wear a pager or something of the like at all times?

Thanks Guys

I will not post names out of respect for the people I know. Check out Eagle Jet (www.eaglejet.net). You can get 250 hours of 727 time for less than $30K. Guess where you fly? Miami Air. Ask around, you will find some F.O.s with <1000 hours... On the bright side, at least you get paid to sit in the right seat after you paid for the job. Nice.

Miami Air is a small company... maybe 100 pilots total including the upper level managment who are current and qualified. Everyone knows everyone at MAI and I can also attest that Miami Air is not a PFT airline, never has been.

There is a training contract but pilots do not pay or owe anything off the bat. Furthermore, newhires are paid during training, further negating the PFT myth.

miami air

The Eagle Jet web site that you are directed too does not indicate anything about Miami Air. Could they dry lease an aircraft from them, possible.

Miami Air is not in the business of Leasing out aircraft, with only 7 airplanes on the property down from 11 about 3 years ago. The reason being, MAI was involved with a company called "Eagle Air Freight" and was using cargo config. 727s under the name of "Quest Air"... All the guys who flew those aircraft are now on the 737-800s or the last 2 727s or have since left for greener pastures... But no PFTs!

You said:

"I know a bunch of people from EAL who work there which made it cosy to begin with."

Would that be EAL scabs, or guys that didn't cross the line?

Or a combo of both?....(Not likely as they probably would not share the cockpit with each other..?)

Another question:
Does Miami Air use seasonal contract pilots from certain European carriers?

You know, this business is so full of crap, lies, and people that want to manipulate people to try and reach their own selfish political goals. Yes, we have scabs, we have people that crossed the line after ALPA said they could. Yes, we have the hard core striker that never went back. All for good reasons. We are all very professional and leave all that BS out of the flight deck. It is fun to banter each other on a layover but overall we all get along very well no matter which part of the program we were in at EAL.

Wow, ya got EAL guys from both sides of the fense?

Sounds incredible.

Reason I say that is: I worked a contract in the Middle East in 92/93, we had EAL guys that struck, that did not strike and guys that were told by their local ALPA guy it was okay to cross and go back.
(It was not)

There was open hostility, verbal abuse and almost fist fights between the 2 camps. They all had to lay down arms in the office and in the cockpit in the interest of future work for for the airline, the chiefs had heard about the fights.

Same with UAL, the scabs flying there, easily identified by the lack of an ALPA pin, are being treated proffesional, but nobody speaks to 'em byond the call of duty, check lists, call outs, etc.
No social life on lay-overs.

At any rate, just curious as I live in South Florida and see the planes around and one hears the rumors, not the facts I guess.

So, there is no connection to any European 737 outfit that comes over for the winter season and flies on your certificate then?

We have one airplane that we are into 50/50 with Excel Airways. It spends 6 months in Europe and 6 months over here. Excel offers us FO and Captain slots for the 6 months and we reciprocate. In addition Excel leases to us as many 737's as we need for our winter business, but they are all on our certificate and flown by our guys.EAL was almost 14 years ago, people just have to let that kind of stuff go. Back in the early 90's the whole issue was very fresh and people were having a hard time dealing with it, on both sides of the fence. The hard part was the reality that EAL was no more senority didn't mean didily squat, for some guys 20 to 25 years down the tubes...good memories though.

Roger on that.

Who did ya fly DC-3s for?

I did the '3 in Alaska, Virgin Islands and P.R.
