A 900 landing would be very quiet, I have actually seen one done. not much different from any other app. It's the possability of a go around that won't get that one approved.

I flew with this old capt out of CHO that liked to do 1050/flap35 approaches. Talk about quiet.

Seen the 1050/35 thing done once.

900 RPM landings are approved for some operators as far as I know. I think DH sells the paperwork for it, and it does land nice that way. Don't have to carry power down to the ground. They'll be at flight idle before you touch. A lot like a jet.

I'm convinced that landing the Smash 8 here in Hawaii is luck. I sat through several spine crushers coming in to 4R at HNL, and then several greased landings in Kapalua. It's either a difficult plane to land or all the guys I rode with really suck. ;) Then again - having the main landing gear on long sticks about 400 feet from the fuselage probably doesn't help!

... I think the key is to flare early, really pancake the mofo on, and then curse, "Dammit!" under your breath. Then again, if they put arresting hooks on 'em I think like 50% of WP would be right at home.

Heh, it has arresting props....
