Any ideas where the new hires will be going to as far as bases? My guess is that all new hires will be routed to either the MD88 or B737. Any educated guesses as to when a pilot could get a line or possibly move to the heavier/int'l equipment (767, 777, etc.) and get a line there?

It might be a little too early to answer those questions, but I figured it was worth asking. Haven't found a lot of recent information on the board regarding this matter. However, if you know of a thread that I may have missed, please post the link in this thread. That way everybody can benefit.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I heard that Delta is shooting to simplify the fleet by the end of 2008. Any idea which aircraft type may be shuffled out as a result of the simplification process and how this may affect hiring?

Also, what kind of annual retirement numbers is Delta looking at as things stand today (I realize Age 65 will impact those numbers)?

No real simplification of fleet, since we have already trimmed it down to a few types. The MD88s will be around for awhile since the leases were reduced from $280,000 a month to $80,000 a month. Same with the MD90s. We will keep everything else (738s,757s,767-300s,767-300ERs,777s) and add to our numbers with up to 17 757-ERs from AA (ex TWA birds) starting at 2 per month in June, and we will be adding 10 737-700s and a few more 738s in the next couple years. We will get 5 more 777s in the next 3 years, with two of them as the LR version, capable of nonstop ATL--Shanghai. We are adding longer flights on our existing 777s---and will start nonstop ATL to Seoul, Korea and nonstop ATL to Dubai, UAE in May or June. That alone will require a lot more crews. Our longest flight currently is nonstop Mumbai, India to JFK--which is almost 17 hours. (that has 4 crew members--2 Capt and 2 FO--every day) Add Seoul and Dubai, and that means more crews moving upward. Then add 17 new 757s with winglets, and that means more. The earliest I have heard of MD88s leaving is slowly starting in 2011. There are still rumors of a true 100 seater, but we don't know about that yet. Mergers could happen too.

Retirements depend on the age 65 rule change. We retired most of our older pilots pre-BK when they had to leave if they wanted half of their pension in a lump sum. We lost about 2300 guys in 18 months. We only have 300 pilots older than 55, and about 1000 total over 50. But, I have heard we may lose 200-300 after we get our pay out for the pension and stock equity sometime this year.

As the general states the simplification of the fleet is

737NG
MD-88
757/67
777/87
You will have four common types on property with that. I also believe that the 67-400 can be difference training with the 777 if DAL wants it.

True, but right now we are working on the possibility of combining the 757/767 with the 764. Currently they are different categories.

Delta's fleet plan will be as following:

777
767-400
767/757
737-700/800
MD-88/90

Delta is shopping for a 787 sim, announcement for an order after exiting bankruptcy.

No Emb 190 order. Cheap plane, but it adds another A/C to the fleet. (Training, MTC, different FMS, parts). Plus it doesn't have the legs of the 737-700.
