This reminds me of Fate is the Hunter, for some reason. (The English in the description is a little rocky, but I think I get the idea.)

I remember lying on my lawn on a Saturday morning and watching the droning "flying boxcars" that passed overhead on training missions out of Willow Grove NAS, and the many DC-3's and Connies on their way into PHL.

What a wonderful time.

Ah, but these were beautiful. I can remember as a kid watching them do a turn over our house, headed for willow run.

"Peacemaker" is, by far, the coolest name for an aircraft EVER!
 
My grandfather flew the RB-36. They had missions of over 40 hours nonstop on ELINT flights around the USSR, and had three crews on board because of the duration of the flights.

I used to hang out in Jamaica Bay in a boat on the approach to 13R at Idlewild (oops..JFK) in the sixties, watching the arrivals. Lots of recips, some turboprops and jets. You could count on at least one recip arriving with a feathered engine in 2 hours.
The BOAC Comets and VC10's were really beautiful to see.

I once overflew JFK in a Tri-pacer (talking to Tower on a photo mission) and watched a Concorde land on 4R. AWESOME!

Learjet Lowrider

Hey Typhoon,

That Learjet is not such an uncommon thing. For a good while there was a problem with the hydraulic down locks in the nose gear retraction cylinder. If you left the hydraulic system pressurized sometimes the pressure would bypass the down lock and allow the nose to settle to the ground.

I walked into my employer's hanger early one morning to find a maintenance guy holding a Learjet 35 by the nose waiting for someone to come along and help him.

It seems the bypass thing started, he grabbed the airplane and was rather stuck there!
