Greetings all,
I'm about to graduate with my BS in Economics in 3 semesters, have a PPL with ~80hrs, and really want to hook up with the herc unit down here in Savannah (165th), or any heavy unit by that matter. Would I still attend UPT after I graduate, and would it make a difference to join now or after I'm finished with the degree? Thanks all.

Do not join now. Go take the AFOQT, BAT, etc... Then apply to as many units as you can. If you are just interested in Savannah then go by and visit. Get your name out as early as possible. You have age on your side so us it to your advantage. Just do not enlist. Any other questions, fire away.

Awesome info...thanks. I've searched for posts concerning UPT and checked out the UPT page on baseops.net however and found that one of the main factors is length of time within the unit. I mean, what are the chances of sliding into a slot after graduation solely because of a 4 year degree? Does it definitely outweigh going in early and establishing myself in the unit?

I realize it would nice to not go in enlisted, but I want to get in pilot training as soon as possible.

You dont need to be w/ a unit to get a slot. I didn't. Just be someone they want to fly with for the next xxxx years. Just do not enlist. That will lock you in and not get you your slot.

True. Don't enlist. No need to do so. Just kiss a lot of ass.

Make sure you talk to the 3 C-17 Reserve units at Charleston if you are from that general area. I don't know what the herc unit is telling you, but a lot of times the Guard hires well in advance of their slots. Plus, you might find flying the buddha to be a little more pleasurable.

I'd also reccomend the herc unit at charlotte, that is a great unit.
