Hello,
I have a few pay and housing questions. Any information is greatly appreciated.

I'm headed to AMS shortly and I heard that if you are married, you recieve some type of BAH because your wife is not with you. Is this true?

Next, here is a UPT situation. My UPT date is in March 03. My wife is a teacher and we would like her to work until the school year ends, and then come down to Texas with me. So basically when I show up for UPT, I'll be unaccompanied. After about three months, my wife will move to Laughlin with me. The question is, where will they put me? Would they still give me family housing if it is available, even though she is not with me yet? Thanks.

I don't know how long AMS is, but if your wife is not with you because it is a TDY, then your BAH won't change from what it normally is.

As far as going to UPT without your wife for the first three months, I don't think they'd have a problem with letting you into base housing right away, but my advice would be to just not tell them that your wife isn't coming with you right away. They'll never know the difference.

BAH is the housing allowance that you receive if you are off base..if in base quarters this goes away. Since you are married you get with dependant rate..You won't get anything at Del Rio if she isn't with you..however at AMS you should get a separation allowance since it is a TDY(believe over 30 days is when it kicks in and it equates to approx $100/month). As far as housing when you get there is all depends on what is available. call the housing office at Laughlin to find out the waiting list and to get yourself on the list. You will need to get them a copy of your orders to get put on the list. Also this is a decent site to find info on pay BAH etc...http://www.dfas.mil/money/milpay/

Good luck..
