Is it possible to interservice transfer to the Marine Corps from the ANG? (for a pilot slot)

I figure if it's possible, that one would have to go to OCS & TBS...

Grunt,

It depends on your age. If your under 27 I think, then you should just walk into an OSOs office and tell him you want to fly. (yes OCS and TBS will follow) Its not really a transfer I dont think, you would simply be applying for a Marine slot having ANG erxperieince (which will help) Make sure that your commitment with your ANG unit is up also.

Never seen or heard of someone going that way - usually its the other way around. I would definately check w/ an OSO to see if this is possible. And yes, I would imagine you would have to attend TBS, but maybe not OCS.

Marine Grunt,
I have never heard of this being done from the air force side. Most of us decide to come to the dark side, not the other way around. I suppose if you really wanted to do such it could be done. When I was at TBS in the early 90's there were several winged 1st Lt's in our company. They were all navy guys who had been given the choice to be a black shoe or go fly in the Marines. The RIF of the early 90's was not a good place be in. They decided flying in the Corps might not be such a bad thing. They got to come over and skip OCS but still had to endure TBS. They were still happy because they all got to fly tactical aircraft instead of P-3's and S-3's which were being cut down. Be advised, the Marine Corps does not take inter service transfers like the Guard/Res. You would probably have to start all over again, including losing any rank you had prior. I could be wrong, but you should ask an OSO. Even he would probably have to make a few calls to HQMC.

Think about it

Don't do it. Stay in the Air Force. Look around a little, there's a reason why USMC pilots switch to the Air Force/ANG/Air RES, but not the other way around. Hmmmm, you might want to ask some former USMC guys about why they made that switch and ask yourself why AF guys don't go to the USMC. There's a reason or several reasons out there.
