I am headed to AMS in a few weeks and I was wondering if I should get the nametapes, and US Air Force tapes sewn on my BDUs before I go. I asked the guys at ops, and they didn't seem too sure. I also don't know what other patches to put on the uniform since I am a former jarhead. What are the patches that go on the front pockets?

Also, what else would you suggest I bring other than the stuff on the gear list? Laptop? Books? etc?...

Thanks!

Just finished AMS last week (2-20)...

yes, get both the tapes sewn on, with that said you should definetly get all your alterations done before you get there including the braids on your service coat sleeves,,, not sure about the patches

-dont get the PT gear,,, you'll have to buy them on day one ($125)

-you won't need the athletic supporter

-don't bring any books, no time for outside reading.

Things to bring:

-atleast 3 folders

-a padlock w/ a key if better than a combination lock (the key saves time)

-a BOTTLE OF NODOZE,, trust me, you'll get 5 hours of sleep a night if you're lucky and the seats in the leacture hall are fairly comfortable.

-some windex wipes to clean the mirrors/glass

-you can do without a laptop, but if you bring one bring a printer- FYI- you will not be allowed to use a disk that has been in you laptop in the computer in your room.

-my roommate had a mini Mp3 player that we could hook into the computer speakers. very handy if your roommate snores like mine.

-get a big stack of notecards, atleast 100 will get you through the 2nd test.

make sure you can do atleas 35-45 push ups and 35-45 situps in a minute. you probably already know about the 1.5 mil run

you'll meet some pretty cool people there, have fun

PM me if you have any other questions
