Have you interviewed? Are you in the class? Hoping to be in the class? What base? I can talk to my Chief and find out more if I know what your situation is.

1/13/03 new hire

I will be in the new hire class. Anyone else out there? Does anyone have access to a vehicle while in ground school? My paperwork said there is no place to eat lunch within walking distance.

Don't sweat it. Everyone is staying at the same hotel, they group up for lunch and dinner. Plenty of your classmates will have cars, people tend to be friendly and want to hang out and eat with each other. There are restaurants within walking distance, not a lot, but a few. A good hamburger joint is short walking distance from the base. The hotel is a 10 min drive from the base. Not much is near the hotel, except for Jack in the Box and the restaurant in the hotel. Lot's within short driving distance. But as I say, it's easy making friends there. I understand you'll have only a couple of classmates who are Captain candidates, turnover has been low, not much hiring. But you'll have a bunch of pilots attending who are in the First Officer Training program(a PFT program AMF participates in). I fly with some occasionally, some are foreign, some not, they tend to be real friendly and enthusiastic about it. Have fun and study hard.

P.S. I'm curious, did it take a recommendation from an AMF pilot to get the interview, I hear it's getting tough these days to get an interview.

I just got an e-mail this afternoon to call for Lance openings. According to HR this is the beginning of the interview process. What can I expect next?

I am sure plenty of the guys in your class will be local, I for one will be living local at mother-in-law since I told my wife we would be getting a job out of town and sold our home, in LA!! My decision making hasn't been the best since 09/10. Hopefully my four door car will be available to you.

I'll be there and I do have access to a car. My paperwork said the same thing about there not being any places to eat within walking distance! Check your Private Messages and I'll send you more info!

I had a recommendation from a current AMF pilot which helped get me the interview, which occured several months ago.

Interviews are hard to come by these days. I have had my stuff in with AF since sept 11. I had a recomendation since day one, but never heard a word. I even called the CP at my local base. still no love. Then I had another friend call J. Bernstien and Bam! out of nowher they called. I will be based in Portland in the 402.

I commend all you guys

You guys remember to be safe, and don't go into weather that is more than you can handle. Stick to your guns if you make a decision not to go.
