I just interviewed for a slot at Ameriflight but i was put in the "pilot Pool". Is there anyone out there that got selected for the PDX position? Also, does anyone know exactly what the "pilot Pool" is? I mean does being in the Pilot Pool mean that you will get selected when the next opening comes up, or is it just something they say to help ease the rejection?

I wasn't hired for PDX, but was hired for another base last summer. I was placed in the "pilot pool" as well. It basically means how it sounds. You are now in a pool, and when there is an opening for the base you were hired at, they will call you for a newhire class date. I had to wait several months until there was an opening at my base, but eventually did get called for class and am now flying.

If you're willing to move, you can also talk to Ameriflight's pilot recruiter and tell him you are willing to take the next opening, wherever it is. That might get you online quicker, but would most likely require a move.

Good luck!

so, does ameriflight hire into bases? i was not aware of that option.....

Yea, they seem to mainly interview people for certain bases. For example, they might have an interview group for a few positions open in Burbank or Oakland. They don't hire a group of people, then have them bid on bases in ground school, or anything similar to how the airlines do.

Nothing at Ameriflight resembles an airline except the fact that they have airplanes.

It's a good system. If you need to work at a particular base, you can interview for that base. Or a choice of bases, or any base where they might have openings. My wife has a good job in my area, it was nice knowing what base I would be assigned to instead of hoping for the best.

Can somebody tell me how long it takes for Ameriflight to invite you to an interview if you don't have the inside recommendation?
Thank you.
