Searched for this, but couldn't find any info what types of GPS do you guys at Ameriflight use in San Juan, I'm working on a cover letter trying to sound slightly informed, thanks in advance.

Not 100% sure, but I think it's the GPS only version of the Garmin 430, the GPS 400. Perhaps someone else will chime in...

Garmin 480! The 480 is in the "old" San Juan plane. That is my best guess.
The "maintance guys" say that the 430 will be the standard GPS for all the fleet. One Chieftan gettn' it now.

Hello Citabria

Awesome, Thanks a lot!!

What base is getting a Chieftain with a 430 in it? 'Cause it ain't Burbank.

The plan is to initially target runs with no approach available but GPS. Dallas has one run like that and Portland has several. Though the plan is to eventually equip every plane. Someday. Sometime.

See I heard a rumor from a line pilot that talked with a avionics tech that said we were getting one in Burbank, but it never happened. We could use one for the Mammoth run, everywhere else we go to has an ILS.

I think they are actually CNX80's down there in SJU which are more or less the same as a GNS480 (just made by Apollo/UPS instead of Garmin).
There is a PA31 getting a 430 installed currently in BUR. It's not likely to stay though.

It looks like you might be right. There's one ripped apart and it looks like they're gonna actually put the GPS in there.
