Several of the SIC's I flew with in the PA-31 at AMF said they "should have done the CFI thing instead Having a meager income, rather than paying for the time."

The lure of the multi time can be strong, but the CFI time is easy to explain, and you WILL become a better pilot. The quality of the SIC in the Navajo really depends on the Captain you fly with as to how much you actually GET out of it.

Best of luck. Go to AMF as a Captain.

Respect...

... you are making the right choice. If this Nava-joe SIC program is a PFT, then you would have gotten ripped off!!! Better to get your MEI. That is a SOLID way to gain multi PIC time and with the new limited CFI-Part 135 rule, you can get some milage. We all wish you the best of luck!!

only under certain circumstances (crew flight time limits, takeoffs less than 1800 RVR (OpSpec issued), and any other operating rule or OpSpec that requires an SIC in order to be in compliance) is a SIC is required, and then he may log the time under FAR 61.51(f).

isn't amerifkight one of those places where you have to pay a bunch of cash to be an sic? why the hell would you do that? maybe i'm thinking of somewhere else.

yes it is. I don't know. I guess people seem to think it's some kind of shortcut to the airlines. Save your money and get your CFI, it'll make you a much better pilot anyway.

while i dont condone it, and the debate rages on...i know of more than one guy that has done it, and moved on with little or no resistance. im not gonna go so far as to say its a viable alternative, but its definately become more mainstream as of late than it has been in the past.

how much does Ameriflight charge for such SIC time anyways?

I'm sure it's good time and experience, but when it comes to interviews I bet it doesn't look so good anymore ...

The SIC program works out well for foreigners who lack flying opportunities in their home country. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has the right to work in US.
