Is it possible to get hired right into the turbine equipment as PIC?
Also what bases are typical for a new hire to get, or does that just matter on what they need when they hire?

It is possible, although not too common to get hired right into a turbine PIC position. I know they have certain requirements for those positions, which include a lot of previous turbine PIC experience.

In most cases, newhires are interviewed at the base they are applying for. For example if you live in Portland, or around that area, you will most likely be interviewed in Portland for a Portland position. If you don't live anywhere near an AMF pilot base, then they will place you based on their need at the time. A lot of newhires seem to get Oakland or Burbank since they have a larger number of aircraft and more movement compared to some other bases.

according to the 19Jan posting on climbto350 you can as long as you have 2500TT, 1000 multi, and 500-750 turbine :)

AMF SA227 Pay/Bases

I've been searching -- can't find any numbers...

What's a ballpark figure for starting captain's pay in the SA227 w/ AMF? I'm sure it depends on the run, however, just looking for an average. Also, where are the junior Metro captains generally getting based?

What are the chances of getting into the Brasilia? Looks as if they only have around 9 or so -- probably too senior an aircraft to hold out for? Lastly, are they running all the turboprops w/ two pilot crews?

1. approx 34K

2. Off the street captains are going to CVG to fill slots that they could not fill in-house.

3. Emb- No chance

4. 2 pilot only about 10 percent of the time, tops.

Oh yeah, there is one more place people who cant figure out the difference between the aviation industry, their a$$, and a whole in the ground end up... MANAGEMENT

I swear if Gary Hart gives me any more paper work to do I am going to drop a bowling ball on his office. j/k

SpiffAv8,

Hold your bowling ball-after finishing my TDY stint in PDX (2-13-2004) I was in dispatch and read a memo stating that Gary Hart has tended his resignation.

Hmmmm!

Anyone know or care to speculate as to whether this was voluntary or under duress?

I was passing through PHX and heard the news. Later that night I read the memo. The real reason he left will never be known, at least not to us. It's tuff to get any communication from the boys upstairs let alone the real story on anything. Communication is one thing AMF has a real problem with. That a the fact that they live in denial, obvlious to the real problems they have created. Things could be better now that Stu is back at the flight dept. helm for awhile. I hope he will have the balls to retract some of the dumb stuff that has come down over the past year or so and to set things straight. If the powers in BUR really want to find out why things are so bad, perhaps they will start listening and taking action. Pilots are over loaded with a ton of B.S. mainly paper work. The job isn't hard, though there are those that seem to enjoy making the pilots to blame for every thing. Time AMF got a clue!

Looks like I can put the bowling ball away for the time being. Who knows...maybe we can even breath easy for a bit.

I suppose my point of view comes from the fact that I have spent half my time at AMF with Stu and the other with Gary. I have only seen things go down hill since Gary became VP of flight. I don't agree with every thing that either one has done. There are a great many poroblems at AMF that seem to be easy to fix. I have flown out of every base except SLC, and have seen many problems which all seem to have the comon stink of managment or should I say the lack of it. Richards is part of the problem. I have always belived that a good leader is one who has the ability to hire the right team and then allows them to do there job. I highly doubt that AMF will have a major changing of the guard. Saddly, things will go belly up before that happens. AMF has so much and could be so much more (better).

Is it just me or does OPS seem to have a bit to much power over what happens in flight?

I hear that "We are glad Gary is gone and we are hoping for many more management resignations in the near future," parties going on all over the AMF system tonight!

Just kidding, managment is probably patting themselves on the back for a job well done tonight and have forgotten to plan the parties for their own resignations.
