What kind of route structure does Ameriflight fly in PR? I'm looking to get to Ponce and/or Vieques for some fun and was looking at the posibility of hitching a ride. are these UPS routes?
It means just what he said. Unless you are a Southwest pilot, you won't be able to just jump seat on any old flight.
We have a reciprocal agreement with Southwest that lest us jump seat on their flights and them on ours. In general, we get more out of the agreement than they do. Though I have had one or two SWA pilots ride along at times.
Other than that, unless you are a courier for the company we are hauling freight for on that flight, our ops manual (and insurance carrier) won't allow it. It's even tough if you are an AMF employee unless you can show some sort of "business purpose" to riding along.
I flew the UPS routes out of PR for a few years. I carried pilots from all airlines to the islands, including UPS pilots and management folks. One day UPS shut down jumpseating for no reason. The UPS guys had to find other ways to their destination. It's the UPS culture and I can't explain it.
Even though we wouldn't take you to Pnce or Vieques, we don't go there, so the point is moot. Cape Air takes anyone and everyone, to my understanding (from the buddies I have there) I'm told not to even bother with a uniform. You might also try Vieques Air (link), I'm not quite sure that I got that right though, and there are more, just can't think of them at the moment.
