most bases have 99s.....soon they probably all will....

at SLC you have the option to bid different routes, but at BIL your route is your route because they're outstationed. If you want to be at home all day then BIL is the place; if you need variety, then SLC is it.

Why would you be home everynight in BIL but not SLC?

You are gone every work night because you sleep in crew quarters in BIL -- note that I said home every DAY. You are home every NIGHT in SLC because you are not outstation based in SLC.

If you can, by all means, avoid billings like the plague! Unless being treated like a second, oops, i meant third or fourth class citizen is your cup of tea. Or, if you like ops managers and the like walking around on the ramp rabidly eyeing his watch and you while you do the final paperwork before startup. Or if you like being hassled for two minutes when four minutes is what constitutes a delay.

line pilot: "let ups know that i need an additional 800 #'s of fuel."
ops manager: "for what?"
line pilot: "b/c my alternate is sheridan"
ops manager: "you don't need that much fuel"
line pilot: "yeah, ugh hugh, i do":)
ops manager: "you're not going there anyway"
line pilot: "but i have to plan for an alternate, and it is sheridan"
ops manager: "but you're not going to go there"
line pilot: "yeah, ugh hugh, i might":D
ops manager: "not if you want to work here"
line pilot:

and this is just one of many instances.
no spuz! i tell you da troof, this guy is a real piece of work.
btw, i topped the @#$% thing off! and flew at the worst possible altitude, and held a reduced power setting!

....and it felt good! :D

man, oh man, the small things in life that make it all worth while....

aside from all that ado, you might get a little bit of flight time. it's also a 6 day a week job, and one cold mofo in the winter!!!

If you let any ops manager push you around at AMF, then they'll take advantage of you. If you tell them that they can fly the trip illegally themselves and you'll happily stay behind and discuss it with BUR, they'll back down pretty quickly.

Just like any other flying job.....
