I think it was actually Crandall who said that his perfect airline would only sell tickets, and that everything would be outsourced. Crandall begot Carty who begot Arpey so it's a logical progression.

You beat me to it.

AA "feels" like TWA when Icahn ran the place. No big plane orders, retreating from Int'l. during decent market conditions, rumors but nothing happening. Changing the carpet and sprucing up the interiors--minimally, just to make it look like you care.

AA's international product is 'ok' but overall, no competition for the top tier international airlines. A dying empire.
