According to what was said in their webcast on the 22nd, they plan to "moderately" grow the company. They want to avoid rapid growth as some other carriers are/were experiencing.
They did say that AWA will be taking delivery of another A-320 in mid-September 2003 and two more next year. However, they do not have the financing set-up for the two -320's that are supposed to come next year.
There was no mention of aircrew hiring. From what I understand, there will be plenty of attrition to warrant some more hiring next year.

I was talking with an america west FO the other week and he mentioned that they were taking 3 new A/C next year, but that they were losing 4 or more. In any case, it's good to see HP making some money and hoepfully turning the corne!

From the webcast, it does sound pretty positive. It sounded as if the investors that were asking the questions were pretty confident about the future of Cactus (and the stock prices reflect it lately).
They will be getting 2 new A320's this year along maybe somemore next year, the 4 aircraft to lose are the 737-200's since there hopeful plan will be an all airbus fleet eventually down the road. The 318's will be here around 2006, or that is what they are hoping for. They posted like an 7 or 8 million dollar profit of gross income, so things certainly are on the upside @ AWA. Finally things looks better in the airline industry.
Of course, how many more CRJ-900's will Mesa get? I talked to one of those Freedum guys and he boasted that they were going to replace all of the CRJ-700's (that will go to DEN by the end of the year for United) with CRJ-900's (or AWA MD-80's). I think he said a total of 20 of them---which doesn't help AWA's growth. (But, what am I saying? Delta has how many RJ's now? I think they want 1000----ouch)
Yea and rumor has it that they will be switching all the Tucson flying from Phoenix over to Mesa and also they will be starting a "mini-hub" at DFW which non other....yes thats right folks MESA will be flying AWA Express out of there so eventually maybe 15 years down the road we can put more mainline jets in their. But hey o well, just what I hear while being dragged into the 1,000 meetings a week.
Well AWA's "plan" is to compete again AA with them slowly become more in the hole, and with SWA out of Love Field we can compete with them too. They would serve all about the Texas area, up the midwest. Using Mesa seems to be a way to test the waters and if things go well there they will put in mainline jets.
