I'm a current 121 dispatcher, and I have been investigating the AMC's move to an airline-style dispatch by using licensed dispatchers as dispatchers at Scott AFB, and having them "dispatch" mobility missions.

Was curious as to if any of our current/recently former military crews have had any experience with the AMC flight manager/dispatchers, and what their experiences with them were?

A friend of mine is a former C141 A/C, current on the C17 at McChord, and said anything is an improvement, for it sucks "reinventing the wheel" with each mission.

The AMC "dispatch" system is a move in the right direction and a huge improvement over the old way of doing business. However, the system still has a ways to go. The "dispatcher", the way I understand it, has no accountability for the product provided to the flight crew and therefore some gotchas are still being found. A common example, flight planned route not matching dip. cleared routing.

Still, it is an improvement, and a neccessity for C-17 crews flying worldwide missions. The AC on a C-17 crew has enough things on his/her mind--it's important that person be as alert as possible when doing that assault landing into BFE instead of being exhausted before stepping out the door at base ops.

I have very limited experience with the new AMC "dispatch" system because I just came from a tour at the schoolhouse and haven't flown many overseas missions since implimentation of the "dispatchers". But my experience has been a good one.

Good to know - I'm thinking of throwing my name into the hat for the next go-round; just missed the last posting, grrrr.
