Just want to state a quick post about the upcoming BOD meeting in October. At this meeting the next President of ALPA will be elected. The event is taking place in Las Vegas, of all places. (Quality use of your Union dues !!)

Keep this date in mind. Start talking to other pilots about this date and contact your local MEC regarding your feelings about Duane Woerth's tenure. We can assume he is running again and this time he won't be running unopposed.

There is going to be a candidate who is going to bring fresh new ideas to the table. Not the same "We need to Unify in these times of crisis" B.S. we have been hearing. Please be patient with us as we are still in the planning phases of this campaign. No sense coming out too early, lest DW steals our ideas and tries to claim them for himself.

Once again, we will be coming out with more specifics as the date gets closer.

If you really want to look at how well your dues are being spent, go to the ALPA website and go to "Events". Click on the BOD meeting in October. There you will find a section about the past BOD meetings. Spend some time and study all, the "Celebrations" and "Receptions" they had in 2002. 5 days of meetings and receptions and celebrations in Hollywood Florida. All the really important business could probably have been done in a day and a half.

Disgusting....all the while a starting FO salary is around $19,000 before health care and taxes. While a Northwest pilot makes less today than he did 10 years ago.

We all know the problems...management has been taking us to the cleaners and ALPA National has not provided sufficient leadership. We're not going to sit back and just bitch and complain. There is plenty of that on the message boards and in the cockpit. We are going to try to do something about it.

Before we can fight back and take on management effectively, we need to fix ALPA National first.

Once again, please be patient as we are still working on our platform and campaign. Specific details and ideas are still being created and as the date of the BOD meeting approaches, you will hear more about it.

In the meantime, keep in mind the upcoming elections in October.

Fly safe.

The problem with ALPA is that the attorneys are in control. Tell me you are going to fix that and I am on board!

What on Earth are you talking about?

I'm still trying to figure out that reply myself. But at least it's a start.

1 down, 65,999 ALPA members to go who need to be informed about the election.

Reform ALPA... you failed to mention that the BOD is in Vegas because New Orleans was wiped out.... In addition the ALPA BOD is always held at union hotel properties.... When you go on the ALPA site you'll read....

In mid-December, the ALPA Executive Council voted to move the 2006 Board of Directors meeting from its scheduled location in flood-ravaged New Orleans to Las Vegas. The Nevada city was the only one with adequate, affordable unionized meeting space available on such short notice.

Some much for your education... you just want to spin.....

Only affordable unionized meeting space available? That's a crock and you know it.

When you are a union you are obligated to use union good and services...

It makes sense if you think about it....

Many hotel properties were looked at, but ALPA will of course only use unionized hotels. That limits what hotels are available, and we are further limited because we need a large enough hotel to accomodate the BOD meeting. This isn't just some Local Council meeting with a dozen people in attendance. The BOD is a large meeting that requires significant facilities. Very few hotels in this country meet these requirements. Of the hotels that met the unionized and size requirements, the Vegas hotel was the least expensive. There are certainly areas that ALPA deserves criticism in, but this is not one of them.

Hey Reform ALPA guy...do you have a candidate to endorse? Seems pretty silly to go on and on about this crap without an alternative to consider. If you didn't want to "come out early" then why are you posting this thread now??

To get people talking and start thinking about the election. Seems to be working.

I nominate D'angelo. Nah, he wouldn't want to step outside the confines of the anonymous Flight Info. Come on D, put your money where your mouth is. You're a crusader, start a campaign to reform ALPA. Stop wasting your time on this useless bunch o' kool ade drinkers. The rest of the pilot community deserves your cherished ideas. Make sure you hire a secretary, too many typos.

Peace Bro

Now THAT's funny.

Rez, what's the big deal about New Orleans? Is that better than Lost Wages? They are both party cities.

If they want to get the work done and save money, they could go to someplace like Akron and spend the weekend, not the whole week.

BTW, if you posted anything that tells what DW has done to deserve a re-election, I havn't seen it.

ALPA TERM LIMITS NOW!

Do you have a candidate in mind, or are you just shooting your mouth off?

This sounds like more drunk rambling from JB/Joe Merchant/Inclusive Scope or whatever alter ego you're using for the day.
