At Hawaiian, unless you fly the 717, you'll spend a number of nights each month away from home. The interisland pilots essentially fly a morning or afternoon schedule, and are home every night.
The 767 schedules are usually two or three day trips, out and back across the Pacific. The layover is sometimes 12 hours, but more often 24 or more. Most of the trips originate out of HNL, with a small pilot base in Seattle too. Most of the HNL trips go to the west coast cities, and soon to Sydney Australia too.
Here are some sample schedules:
DEP ARR DEP/TIME ARR/TIME
HNL 767:
HNL LAX 0835 1630 Layover-14:50
LAX HNL 0855 1120
HNL OGG (DH) 1220 1257
OGG PDX 1435 2250 Layover-33:10
PDX HNL 0915 1155
HNL SMF 1315 2120 Layover-10:35
SMF HNL 0910 1130
Note that the Sacremento (SMF) trip ends up being more than 8 hours in 24. They get around that by using the regulation that allows that if there is a break before you get to 8 hours, and the rest period must be at least double the flight time. Here the HNL-SMF flight time is 5:05, so there must be at least 10:10 of rest. Since the scheduled rest is 10:35, if the inbound flight is late, or the flight time runs longer than scheduled, the outbound flight the next morning is delayed.
