I am considering getting a shot, but am not sure what the FAA's position is on it.

Thanks.

Immunotherapy is injecting yourself with what you are allergic to in order to build up your tolerance against it. This usually takes multiple injections and many years to complete.

What "shot" are you considering?

I used to get these, but it was before I started flying. I think I was finishing them up when I started, and it was never an issue. It starts off by a doctor visit where they place small injections of allergens that you may be allergic to just under the skin on your back in rows. Based off the reaction, they can determine what you are specifically allergic to, and then customize a syrum just for you. I think it lasted 3 years for the injections, starting off with weekly shots, then bi-weekly until it was worked up to once a month. It did seem to help and I am glad I did them. I still do have some allergies, but they are not as bad as they used to be. One thing I was allergic to was dogs, and now I can be around them without issues, and hopefully in the future I'll get one for a pet.

That immunotherapy is totally undoable if you are in a pilot or F/A position. You have to get the shots at regular intervals as was mentioned, and it is not something you can do yourself. You will have to go to a doctors office or a clinic to have the shot(s) administered if you are on the road and who can say if you will be able to get to one or find one and if they can fit you in.
