Allegiant Air's mechanical failures on 3 planes delay 662 Hawaii-bound passengers



Allegiant Air planned to make a big splash in the Hawaii market this month with five new routes from four mainland cities.
But it turned out to be a big letdown for 662 passengers whose trips were delayed as much as 26 hours last weekend when three of the carrier’s five Boeing 757s were grounded overnight due to mechanical problems.
Passengers on Honolulu-bound flights from Stockton, Calif., and Bellingham, Wash., as well as Bellingham-to-Maui passengers, were instead inundated with vouchers as the apologetic Las Vegas-based carrier tried to remedy three isolated mechanical incidents.
Passengers on the second-ever Stockton-to-Honolulu flight suffered the worst of it as their Sunday afternoon flight was delayed 26 hours and they didn’t arrive in Honolulu until 11 p.m. Monday night rather than at 9:05 p.m. Sunday as scheduled.
Overall, 13 of the 662 affected passengers decided to opt out from their trips and accepted refunds.
Service that began this month to Honolulu from both Santa Maria, Calif., and Eugene, Ore., have experienced no such mechanical interruptions.

MX problems EVERYDAY! That must be how they manke so much money, they don't pay to fix anything! :smash:
 
Hmmm, I just got a email from them with a big Hawaii sale, lol. $149.00 bucks to fly a rickity 757 for six hrs overwater. I think I will take HAL.

THAT'S how they're making $$. They have such a cheapo, bottom-feeding customer base who'll collectively put up with unbelievable amounts of delay and discomfort just to save $50. The world we live in I suppose-- why Allegiant and Spirit are swimming in cash and Virgin America is bleeding it...
 
How about all the "return to fields" that happen a lot more often than at other airlines? :erm:

G4 has the numbers to prove this theory so far. Pax complain about bad service. Have never been willing to pay for it, in any sizeable amount. Infrequent customers have very short memories. The majority of casual flyers commoditize aviation, a kin to purchasing gasoline. Coming up on the first page of the Internet search, using price as the ultimate driver has worked so far.

Will see.
 
The flying public has got what their buying behavior says they want and deserve. Allegiant has been remarkably successful at capitalizing on that mentality.

May be fodder for the aviation sophisticates’. The average G4 passenger has no idea what “return to fields”, is referring to.
 
Don't have maintenance done by the lowest bidder?

The general public will put up with anything if it's cheap enough?
