So is there any new news of ALG or PDT getting RJ's? Just wondering cause I heard of talks going on between MEC and Management. I still have hope of getting on with ALG since I've been in their pilot pool for awhile even though I know there are 18 pilots on furlough now with ALG. Any comments?

Just my opinion. If ALG gets an allotment of jets then you should consider flying for ALG. If not, then definitely consider other pastures. Why constrain yourself to Dash 8 flying in the Northeast? Plus, we all know what Siegal thinks about props - not good... If you really want to fly a Dash 8 but still have some variety, perhaps Mesa or Horizon - at least you could upgrade later...

Just my .02.

Right now I would give my left nut to fly anything that has two engines on it. I respect your response, but I really want to fly something larger that a C172 for a living!!

God its guys like this that stop us from taking our place. Go fly for MESA if you want shiney new airplanes oh ya and take it in the a$$ every payday.

I think we are getting C-172s after they send back all the dash-8s. So looks like your still S O L.

Plus nobody wants his left nut anyway, so either way you look at it, he is S.O.L.

It is not the flight instructors fault. We were all in the same boat. Watching a bigger airplane fly over and wishing it was us at the controls. The airline unions need to educate the pilots just starting out in this carrier the pit falls of jumping at the first job!

Example if a guy at some flight school whose dream job would be to fly at Northwest. His plan would to get his time in a turbine powered aircraft as soon as possible. In the past that is what happened. You would get hired at a regional for very low wages to get your time and leave. But the regionals at that time did not have the same mission that a major had. That line is now gone. A EMB 190 is no different from a DC-9 or B-737-500 or a A-318. But a pilot at regional is willing to fly it for half of what a major airline pilot would(Does not include a pension).

So the new pilot dream of flying for Northwest is getting harder and harder to reach. Because why would Northwest buy airplanes to replace the old DC-9. When they can cut there highest controlable costs in half by letting a regional airline fly them.

These companies have been smart enough to get us all to fly for less. We have to stop this trend or we all will need a second job to survive.

What about guys coming behind us? What would they fly a CL-65 or a EMB-145 for? They are out there right now watching you taxi by wishing they were sitting in your seat. How can you tell them that 45 dollars an hour is way to low.

Because it is too low. No F/O I know makes that, and certainly no captains anywhere but Mesa and a few other contractors make $45 an hour. they make more.

Would you really want a captains job that paid $45/hr? ok.. but you will have to iit in the right seat for 6 years and subsidize your check with food stamps to get there.

Hey HeavySet.. we are only limited to the Northeast flying Dash's because the mainline mentality said that if we got RJ's it would put you guys out of a job. Well, Guess what?? those jets went to ASA, Comair, Mesa, Chitaqua, Tsa, Air Whiske, et al.. They took your job and possably mine. I still believe that if Mainline had used the company braincell and bought several dozen of those mini-jets, there wouldn't be 2000 on furlough at mainline. You live and die by your feed. You can't feed a large airline with only 37 & 50 seat turbo props, and you can't feed 7-3's with 7-3's either.

Unfortunately for the person that started this thread, Airways is a dying animal. You need do get in another pool somewhere. Sorry dude.

Then after 6 months when the novelty wears off, you'll extremely pissed everytime you see your friend with less time than you get on board an RJ, with his captain ride coming up in less than a year.
