Requirements
REPORTS TO: Director, Flight Training
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the instructional and administrative personnel assigned to specific aircraft training programs
- Supervise the development of flight and ground-training programs in coordination with the Fleet Captains,
and Director, Flight Standards, assuring standardization in format and content
- Coordinate and supervise the implementation of classroom, flight training device and full flight simulator
training programs assigned to their aircraft type
- Ensure the manuals for their assigned aircraft reflect the current company, regulatory and industry information
and coordinate with appropriate departments and Standards Manager for necessary revisions
- Provide technical input to the Training Board, Flight Standards Board, MEL and MMEL committees
- Ensure instructors under their supervision are qualified and prepared to conduct specific training for which they
are scheduled
- Monitor selected classroom, flight training devices (FTD) and simulator activities to ensure quality of training
and standardization among instructors under their supervision
- Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of 14 CFR 61, 91, 121, and SFAR 58
- Knowledge of appropriate FAA Advisory Circulars, Orders and Handbooks
- Must possess outstanding leadership skills
- Must possess outstanding communication skills
- Self motivated manager with demonstrated problem solving skills
- Must excel at understanding and making decisions on complex regulatory and personnel issues
- Flexibility to lead instructional staff to adapt to dynamic changes in training concepts
- Must possess strong critical thinking skills
- Strong aviation background with aircraft and/or ground instruction experience. Extensive pilot experience is preferred
- Knowledge of MD-80 aircraft systems is required
- Writing and editing skills to develop technical documents and manuals
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Undergraduate degree preferred
- Aviation background should include multi-pilot crew aircraft with preferred experience in airline operations
- Must hold ATP with MD-80 type rating or ability to successfully complete Alaska Airlines Captain Qualification training
