From the Chief Pilot's newsletter, 10 new hires will start class on January 3, 2005. Congratulations guys.

Anticipate more after the contract is settled between now and March.

No info seems to be around on new interviews or hiring of the remaining poolies. All depends on the outcome of the now hot and heavy pilot contract negotiations. A potential Tentative Agreement by December 15, which would go to a vote, or arbitration by March 05 are the events that will determine where management will go with this. Retirements are ramping up but work rule concessions could increase efficiencies and decrease the number of pilots needed. That number of pilots needed for Alaska's current size or any variant will be very dependent on the contract outcome. So expect some news fairly soon after an agreement is reached by one of these methods, it doesn't matter which.

Thanks for the update--

Has anyone figured out how the order was determined for calling these 10 lucky ones out of the pool? Inquiring minds want to know.....
