US Airways passengers will get a cushier flight next year as the airline replaces its smallest planes with a fleet of midsized jets.

The jets will be used primarily on the East Coast, flying out of Philadelphia. Senior vice president Andrew Nocella said US Airways will use them for flights between Philadelphia and Hartford and Providence. It also will fly between Philadelphia and Dallas or Houston.

US Airways will spend at least $625 million on 106-seat Embraer 190 jets. The first of 25 planes will become available in December.

"It's filling that sweet spot between our smallest Airbuses and our largest regional jets," Nocella said.

Nocella said many of the 50-seat planes that US Airways currently flies likely will be replaced by the Embraer 190, a roomier ride with enlarged windows and cabin space.

growth airplanes. They know that the 200's are going away, just a matter
