What's up with the Airbus in AirTran livery that seems to live on the ramp by the AirTran hangar in ATL? I may be an idiot (please don't respond) but I don't seem to recall such aircraft in their fleet...

I believe those were operated by Ryan for Airtran. Pretty sure they did ATL-LAX for a bit. Not sure what the current status is now.

Anyone else in the know.

The "search" feature on this board is a beautiful thing. Too bad more people don't use it (sigh).
AirTran entered into an ACMI lease with Ryan to provide sub-service to the West coast, until such time that AirTran had the planes to do the service itself. The A320 you are talking about is probably a spare, in case one of the other two they are operating for us is down.

We have gotten 6 of the 8 B737-700's we are scheduled to receive for 2004, so the Ryan Airbuses won't be doing AirTran flights much longer. We are scheduled to get another 13 737-700 in 2005.

YGBSM Pyle! I can hardly direct my lazy eyes below the first one or two new threads, let alone conduct some sort of concerted effort! What are you, a wizard?! Thanks for the info Ty...

Stangley enough he is the Man behind the Galley Curtin from time to time.....

Ryan is gone Oct 1, 2004.

[in a thunderous voice] "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN! I AM THE GREAT AND MIGHTY FLAP OPERATOR!"

Hopefully, though, I won't just be operating the flaps for much longer.

PS., I think you mean the Ryan deal will be gonzo sometime in November.

Curious, anyone at Airtran try thanking a Ryan Crew for helping them?

Are they still hiring Riddle CAPT graduates? How many are online now and how are they regarded?
I'm going to assume that your question is a legitimate question.

First... I really do not know what a Embry Riddle Captain is.

As far as your question, I can tell you with most certainty, that the new hires at AirTran for the past three years, are VERY experienced pilots, with a large mix of ex-Military, and Furloughed Major Pilots, and Regional Airline CheckAirmen.
Are any of these Pilots we are hiring Embry Riddle Graduates, I honestly don't know, maybe a few, but NOBODY is getting hired at AirTran right now straight out of college, I can assure you. Many in there 40's and 50's.

I didn't know that it was required. Is it polite, maybe.

Have any of the Ryan pilots thanked us for giving them work?

I have in fact taken MANY Ryan jumpseaters on full flights, and have told them I appreciate what the've done.

Happy?

You're kidding? Airtran paid Ryan Air for their services, no thanks is required, and besides Ryan was not helping Airtran, it was business between two companies.

This is a general question, for you Airtran pilots, for the most part are you guys liking Airtran. Does the future look bright?

You are correct FL717 the pendulum swings both ways. It wasn't a jab at the fact that Airtran couldn't have made it without Ryan. It was however, the fact that Ryan pilots that flew the contract were professionals and did not give Airtran a blackeye of any sorts (as far as I know). It was a mention to the previous posts that made it sound like that Ryan couldn't get off the property fast enough.
Midnight Mike I am talking about something other than business, something that is more like a team effort amongst pilots and Professionalism. Don't look so deep into it!

Reading your follow up, your question makes sense to me now.

I think the feeling for many Pilots at AirTran, was not getting Ryan off the property, the issue is "who is doing our (AirTran Pilot) flying" . This is similar to any company that outsource work. Most pilot groups want all company flying done by company pilots, and we are no different.

I agree, I have heard nothing negative about Ryan, and quite frankly, without them, we would not have established marketshare in west coast markets.

For that I thank them.

I was wondering Ty if that ramp queen was actually this airplane:

In fairness, Ryan isn't the only operator of the A-320 that has had that happen. I really hate getting down low and checking those latches on a sloppy day --- but the potential result of not doing so speaks for itself.

I have heard of incidents where the latches were closed, but the cowling wasn't secured (latches closed on an open cowling to make the latches less of a nuisance/source of injury to maintenance personnel, and then overlooked when work was completed). I don;t know any of the specifics of the Ryan incident, though.
