I'm looking for a pair of dress shoes that won't set the medal detectors off everytime I walk through the airport. Its a pain in the a*s everytime I show up to work and have to take off my shoes. Any ideas will help ?

I got the 'Stags as well. They are pretty good at standing up to the glycol, have never beeped in security, but in this recent cold northeast wx I have learned the hard way they build up a wicked static charge.

Ground yourself with a key in your hand or suffer the zap syndrome. Fair warning!

Just bought a pair of Florsheim dress shoes at Sears for $75. All leather and no metal shank. I even had them put through an airport style metal detector just to make sure, before I broke 'em in.

Just got a pair for X-mas... They are perfect. Johnston & Murphy. Ask for the ones that don't have the metal shank in them. Can't go wrong. They look great also. Good luck...

Sketchers

I am looking for a shoe to wear with my uniform that has no metal shank. I found some Sketchers that are a slip on and is pretty sharp. I would like something that you can also wear out to the bar with jeans as well as a uniform. I have heard the Doc's are like this, but my question is whether anyone has worn any of the Sketchers and whether or not they have the metal shank, thanks.

Johnston & Murphy Signature Series are freaking great.

The warranty is great too, if they crease funny or something cosmetic they will replace them. Or if you don't like them you can take them back for six months (even after wearing them every day).

I had to exchange a Xmas present because of the metal shanks. There are a few models that are "airport friendly." Most will have a tag on them identifying this. I got a pair of slip-on Nunn Bushes. They're really comfortable, good-looking for going out, and metal detector friendly.

FlyingDude

Flying Dude... I recently bought a pair of sketchers that look great with a uniform, have awesome tread for icy ramps (and wings) are the second most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.... BUT despite what the bimbo at the store said.... they DO have a metal shank. Im a Freight Dawg so i only have to deal with that metal detector nonsense when i jumpseat but... still ticked me off a bit.

The shoes I'd recommend are called Blundstones, an Austrailian shoe that might take some searching to find. These are the most comfortable shoe i have ever worn and the last pair i had lasted me 6 years. (and I'm horrible about taking care of shoes) I've heard of Aussies keeping the same pair for 15 years. Theyre slip on and cover the ankles. Appropriate with any uniform I'd think...
