I'm not sure of all the specifics, but I believe it has to do with a TSA requirement that any offline riders have to be screened with the detector wand.
Supposedly we are ordering wands and the jet SIC's will be trained to conduct the screening.
The change also hurts airnet family members who used to ride on the system. Only airnet pilots and employees at this time.
So I'm going to get screened by the pilot that I am jumpseating with? Now that's pretty embarassing to be standing out on a cargo ramp trying to get home and some pilot is patting you down like a terrorist.
This is the ultimate in insanity. I fly the props for Airnet and even I cannot take a non-company rider. This screwed alot of families (mine included). Some people were stranded after this new ruling by the idiots at TSA. My parents had to buy tickets short notice to make it out during the holidays.
I hope that Santa put a huge piece of dog sh!t in the TSA's stocking!!

I talked to dispatch this weekend. We won't be able to take riders other than company pilots until we complete a TSA training course and equip our aircraft with hand wands. Nobody can be sure when this will happen or at least they're keeping the information very hush hush. It wouldn't surprise me if they never went through with the training and equiping each aircraft due to the costs involved as well as the fact that 135 check flying is going down the toilet in the next year or so. Looks like it's time to find a new job!
I have heard that we SHOULD (rumor for now) be equipped and ready next month. It really does suck, and i am truly sorry for everyone trying to ride us for now, but it has nothing to do with Airnet. The TSA shut it all down until further notice because of the elevated threat involving cargo aircraft.
Also, speedbird, don't worry so much about that stupid check 21 man!! You are bringing us all down!! You will be fine, nothing is going to happen here to us. We are well underway to finding replacement work. The fact is we are hiring like crazy right now. There is a class going through now, and more in the next few months. That is not a sign of you losing your job.
Soutwest and AirTran are allowed back on now. The new catch is we MUST be able to verify employment and run a check through the TSA for EVERYONE who rides. This means you may no longer list at the last minute, it must be at least 24 hours in advance with dispatch so they may make those checks(no pun intended). You must provide your employee number for the employment check, and your SS# for the TSA check. More to come later.
