Does anyone have any info on current base openings? How often do you bid for a base? Any tips during training?

Thankful Newhire.

Don't they have an Airnet website for that?

Freightpuppy training

Congrats....if you just got hired. Not sure what bases are open right now, I think Richmond, VA was on the last bid sheet. New bid sheets come out every week and open bases change that often. They will tell you in training not to worry about your base....good idea...since you have little control on where you end up (depends on whats open when you finish your checkride)...and you have to make it through training first. As far as tips for training...its pretty intense....study all info they give you.....don't forget to break the dust off the AIM. They let you use the sims all you want on the weekends off so make sure any time you are not studying is spent in the sims. If your head isn't spinning by the end of the week..don't forget to go out and take a break.... Good luck, let me know if you have any more ?'s.

I don't have a question about AirNet bases, just a question about the fleet. The company website lists fleet types but not #s.

I've seen several pics of AN C-208s on airliners.net.....I was just curious about how many Caravans are in the fleet? And how about the BE-58s? There were only seven Barons when I started there, way back in the day. Any ideas?

Wow, only seven Barons. You must have flown with J. Mercer, right?

Anyway, I think we have about 15 C-208's, 40 Baron's and 40 Lear's. I'm not sure how many C-310's or PA-31's we have. No more Aerostar's.

Airnet's 135 certificate lists the following aircraft types: (# of aircraft)

CE-208-B (10)
CE-208-208 (4)
CE-310-R (16)
BE-58-58 (40)
PA-31-350 (18)
LR-25-D (2)
LR-25-B (1)
LR-35-35 (6)
LR-35-A (28)
LR-60-60 (3)

for the total of 128.

Starcheck1 - Thanks for the info! One more question. Do you know what is driving the current hiring? Is it mostly pilot turnover or new business.

Thanks again for the info. Starting class on 9/3.

I think its a little of both. I have seen a couple of new runs on the last bid sheets....and know a few people who have moved on. I would guess turnover is the main reason.
Are they making you sign training agreements now?? Just wondering....I heard rumors.

Apparently.....it's baaaaack. 12 months or $7000.

Looking forward to working there. Airnet has a GREAT reputation. Everyone I've EVER talked to has positive things to say about it....unlike other companies down south.

What happens if no one bids for an open base? Is the route covered by floaters until someone does bid?

holy crap...$7,000, as in thousand?!?

Usually yes. Or sometimes they're contracted out to other companies

Signing bonus??

If Airnet is bringing back the training contract, does anyone know if the signing bonus is coming back with it? Due to the large number of applications I'm sure they receive, I don't think they would start offering it, but just wanted to double check.

Thanks,
FlyWest

Bonus??

I doubt that they will have any type of signing bonus....but thats just me guessing..I haven't heard. As far as Airnet having a large # of apps....when I went through class the pilot recruiter said he had 5,000 on file.

signing bonus

What, are you on drugs? You better get a new watch, cause you don't know what time it is.

How many hours flying/duty do you average per week? Where are you based and what is your run/schedule?

Thanks for all of the info!!!

Thanks for all of the info!!!

It doesn't matter what his run does, because yours will be differant. A typical run averages 10 hours duty time, there are some runs that go 14 hours. Flight time can average any where from three hours to almost eight hours.

Take my advise don't even worry about your base till you get through training.

Jaybird gives good advice. I am not saying you shouldnt be goal oriented. Just keep the goals realistic, like not blowing a written test, or crashing the sim. After that pass your inital check ride, then pass your tranistion training. After all that worry about getting a base. Until then dont even look at bid sheets, it will only depress you since you cant bid.
Good Luck!!

I appreciate all of the advice. I'm just curious that's all. I realize that everyone's experience is unique. I'm trying to understand what some of the possibilities are. It's a strange industry where you don't know where you'll be living in a month and a half after you've put so much effort into getting to the second rung of the ladder of a seriously underpaid profession. Yet we all gladly do it for the love of flying. I'm fully prepared to put forth the necessary effort during training. I've drunk from the fire hose before.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the "real" world. I'm off to pack!

Safe Journeys!
