Does anyone know how the new-hire background checks work? I have a couple of old convictions (college and spring break related stuff), all minor misdemeanors. No DWI or DUI's. I was never fingerprinted for these crimes or even fined for that matter, but i have been to the tank a couple of times. Will these show up in the BG check when hired? Will they still show up if i have my record sealed or expunged?

just tell them your story of your youthful mistkaes, what you learned and how it makes you a better person today. I honestly have no idea what exactly shows up on background checks. I do know however that they are getting more detailed including most companies doing a thorough search of your court records through background check companies. If you have ever shown up in court for anything its on record somewhere, doesnt matter if its sealed expunged whatever its still out there to be found, it just depends on if they check the right places. If you get caught in a lie its game over. I have seen too many people get pulled out of groundschool or fired later on for getting caught lying on the app. It just isnt worth the risk.

Would

would that include civil court for landlord tennant stuff

civil claims can show up on credit checks. The best way to know whats out there is do a background check on yourself.

good question

whats the best way to check? write the FBI or do an on-line pay check?
