I've been asked to manage an individual's light jet in the southeast. This would entail maintenance tracking, cleanliness, etc., of the aircraft. I would also fly the a/c, but would be paid for that on a day rate basis.

My questions are: what is a fair yearly fee to manage an aircraft such as this? Are benefits (insurance, 401K, etc.,) normally part of a management scenario? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ultra, are they paying you month-to-month to manage the plane as they are paying you per day to fly it? If you want the perks of an employee (insurance, 401K, etc.) then you should make it one job description, chief pilot. Fly it and maintain it. If a professional company was maintaining the plane, in Texas, the fee would be $1500/month plus all cleaning (hiring a cleaning service, about $700/month) and all manintenance, plus the price of CAMPS or CESSCOM.

The management fee would be yearly (i.e., $24,000/yr.) and would include the things I've mentioned (maintenance tracking, cleanliness of aircraft, records-keeping, etc.). He has his own hangar, so I would be taking care of things around there as well.

I would be paid a daily rate for each day that I fly (or am overnight).

I suppose I could try to negotiate the benefits into the whole package. I would like to manage this person's plane and also fly contract for others as well.

I'm just wondering what a fair yearly management fee would be for the above-described duties.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of arrangement?

Thanks,

Ultraman

I used to work for a management company that managed large and medium sized jet aircraft. They would have charged at least 50K to manage a light jet, not including pilot, maintenance, and cleaning. I never understood why someone would pay a management fee versus having their own outsourced flight department.
